Lean Whey Iso Hydro is MuscleSport's gourmet protein, labeled "Fat Metabolizing Whey Protein." Every flavor gives you 25 g of protein from whey protein isolate and hydrolyzed whey at 120 to 135 calories a scoop. On top of the protein, MuscleSport adds what it calls a Fat Metabolizing Matrix, a blend of Fibersol-2 soluble corn fiber, MCTs, L-carnitine tartrate and CLA, built to support fat metabolism as part of your diet and training.

The flavors are the reason people buy it. MuscleSport's Supp Chef builds them like desserts, and many have real pieces mixed in: cookie crumbs, cereal, marshmallows, maple sugar sprinkles. Other ingredients: Natural and artificial flavors, gum blend (gum acacia, guar gum, xanthan gum), sucralose and lactase in every flavor, plus flavor ingredients such as alkalized cocoa, cookie or cereal pieces, marshmallow bits, peanut flour or maple sugar

The matrices are blends, so the label doesn't list each ingredient's amount. Every flavor contains milk, and nearly all contain soy. Many dessert flavors contain wheat from cookie, cereal or pie-crust pieces, some contain coconut, almond or pistachio, and White Chocolate Peanut Butter contains peanuts. Lean Charms, Rocky Road, Katie's Birthday Cake, Maple Bacon Doughnuts and XMAS Peppermint Mocha list artificial colors.

How to use it

  1. Mix 1 scoop with 8 to 10 oz of cold water or your favorite drink.
  2. For the best flavor and to break up the flavor pieces, MuscleSport suggests blending it with ice.
  3. Have it whenever you need protein to hit your daily target, like after training or between meals.

For adults only, and not for use if you're pregnant or nursing. Every flavor contains milk, and many contain soy, wheat, tree nuts or peanuts, so read the allergen line on your flavor. Two label quirks to know: Dubai Chocolate's tub shows a gluten-free badge but contains wheat, and Black Forest Cake's cookie pieces contain wheat flour even though its allergen line doesn't list wheat. The label says it isn't a low-calorie food and shouldn't be used for weight reduction on very low-calorie diets without medical supervision. Stop 2 weeks before surgery, and talk to a physician first if you take medication or have a medical condition.
