Beverly International UMP Ultimate Muscle Protein

An all-day milk protein shake with 20 to 21 g of protein a scoop, in seven flavors, from Kentucky's Beverly International

UMP (Ultimate Muscle Protein) is Beverly International's everyday protein for recovering from workouts and building and keeping lean muscle, from the supplement company based in Cold Spring, Kentucky. It's built on milk protein isolate, which keeps milk's natural 80:20 mix of casein and whey, blended with whey and casein proteins plus added arginine, glutamine and BCAAs. Each scoop has 20 to 21 g of protein, 120 to 130 calories and 4 to 5 g of carbs.

Because most of its protein is casein, which digests more slowly than whey, Beverly suggests it at breakfast, around your workout and before bed. It's sweetened with sucralose and acesulfame potassium, and no flavor has more than 1 g of added sugar. Each 930 g tub has about 28 to 29 servings, and we carry Vanilla, Chocolate, Angel Food Cake, Cookies & Creme, Graham Cracker, Rocky Road and Strawberry.

How to use it

  1. Add 1 scoop to 8 oz of cold water and blend or shake until smooth. Use a little less water, or blend in 3 to 4 small ice cubes, for a thicker shake.
  2. Beverly suggests having it within an hour before or after lifting, first thing in the morning, before bed, or any time you need more protein in your day.
  3. It also works in pudding, pancakes, brownies and smoothies.

Contains milk and soy, and Cookies & Creme also contains wheat. Earlier tubs also listed egg, so check the allergen line on yours. Beverly's label says to use it as a supplement, not for weight reduction or as your only source of calories. The product page carries a California Prop 65 warning for lead.

  • Want one protein you can drink any time of day, including before bed
  • Are new to protein powder and want an easy place to start
  • Like dessert flavors with 1 g of added sugar or less
  • Like supporting a Kentucky supplement company

Common questions

How much protein is in UMP?

20 g per scoop in most flavors and 21 g in Cookies & Creme and Rocky Road, at 120 to 130 calories.

How is UMP different from Muscle Provider?

UMP is mostly milk protein isolate, so it's mostly casein and digests more slowly, which makes it a good fit any time of day, including before bed. Muscle Provider is whey isolate and hydrolyzed whey, a lighter, faster-digesting shake Beverly suggests for right before or after training.

Can I use UMP as a meal replacement?

Beverly's label says to use it as a supplement and not as your only source of calories. Have it with your meals or as a high-protein snack between them.

Does UMP contain egg or gluten?

Current tubs list milk and soy (lecithin), and Cookies & Creme also lists wheat from its cookie pieces. Earlier tubs listed egg white, so check the allergen line on your tub.
