Nutricost Krill Oil
Superba 2 krill oil for omega-3 EPA and DHA, with 1,000 mg of krill oil in every 2-softgel serving
This is Nutricost's krill oil: 1,000 mg of Superba 2 krill oil from Aker BioMarine in a 2-softgel serving, with 400 mg of phospholipids and 100 mcg of astaxanthin. The bottle holds 60 softgels, so 30 servings.
Nutricost sells it as a source of the omega-3s EPA and DHA. Krill oil carries its omega-3s mostly as phospholipids, the same kind of fat that makes up your cell membranes, and DHA is especially concentrated in the brain and the retina of the eye (NIH ODS). Nutricost has updated the label: our photo shows the earlier bottle with 170 mg of omega-3s per serving, and the current bottle lists 220 mg.

Both labels are 60 softgels with 1,000 mg of krill oil per serving. The earlier label marks the EPA and DHA as ethyl esters (EE). The current label marks it gluten-free and third-party tested, packaged and quality tested in the USA with globally sourced ingredients. Superba 2 is a registered trademark of Aker BioMarine Health Ingredients AS.

Common questions
How much EPA and DHA is in a serving?
On the current label, 2 softgels give you 120 mg of EPA and 55 mg of DHA, out of 220 mg of total omega-3s. Earlier bottles list 110 mg of EPA and 60 mg of DHA, out of 170 mg.
How is krill oil different from fish oil?
Krill oil carries its omega-3s mostly as phospholipids. Fish oil carries them as triglycerides, the form found naturally in fish, or as ethyl esters made from them. Krill oil also has astaxanthin. If you want more EPA and DHA per softgel, our Nutricost fish oil has 340 mg of EPA and 220 mg of DHA in one softgel.
I have a shellfish allergy. Can I take it?
No. The label says it contains shellfish (krill). A fish oil may suit you better, but check its label and ask your healthcare provider.
What is Superba 2?
It's Aker BioMarine's branded krill oil, and it's what Nutricost uses here: 1,000 mg in each 2-softgel serving.
