Nutricost Vitamin D3 1,000 IU

Vitamin D3 for bone and immune support, with 1,000 IU in one softgel a day and 240 in the bottle

This is Nutricost's vitamin D3: 25 mcg (1,000 IU) of cholecalciferol in one softgel a day, which is 125% of the Daily Value. Nutricost files it with its immune support products, and the 240-softgel bottle lasts about eight months.

Vitamin D helps your body absorb calcium, is needed for normal bone growth and remodeling, and plays a part in muscle, nerve and immune function (NIH ODS). This is the D3 form, which the NIH says raises blood vitamin D levels more than D2 and keeps them up longer. The softgel holds the vitamin in safflower oil, and the label marks it non-GMO, gluten-free and third-party tested.

Supplement facts per softgel

Serving size: 1 softgel · 240 servings per container

Vitamin D3 (as cholecalciferol)25 mcg (1,000 IU), 125% DV

Other ingredients: Safflower oil, softgel (gelatin, glycerin, purified water)

Non-GMO, gluten-free and third-party tested, according to the label. Packaged and quality tested in the USA with globally sourced ingredients, in a GMP-compliant facility. The gelatin shell means it isn't vegetarian.

How to use it

  1. Take 1 softgel a day with 8 to 12 oz of water.
  2. Store the bottle in a cool, dry place.

For healthy adults 18 and older. The NIH's upper limit for vitamin D is 4,000 IU (100 mcg) a day for adults, counting food and every supplement, so add up any vitamin D in your multivitamin or other products. Check with a healthcare professional before use if you're pregnant or nursing, take medication or have a medical condition. Keep out of reach of children, and don't use it if the safety seal is broken or missing.

A good fit if you

  • Want a daily vitamin D3 for bone and immune support
  • Prefer a moderate everyday strength over a high-dose softgel
  • Want a bottle that lasts about eight months

Common questions

How much vitamin D is in each softgel?

25 mcg, which is 1,000 IU and 125% of the Daily Value. The NIH recommends 600 IU (15 mcg) a day for adults up to age 70 and 800 IU (20 mcg) after that.

What's the difference between D3 and D2?

They're the two main forms of vitamin D in supplements. The NIH says both raise blood vitamin D, but D3 raises it more and keeps it up longer. This softgel is D3 (cholecalciferol).

Can I take it with a multivitamin?

Check how much vitamin D your multivitamin already has first. The NIH's upper limit for adults is 4,000 IU a day from food and all supplements combined, and this softgel adds 1,000 IU.

Is it vegetarian?

No. The softgel shell is gelatin. The vitamin D3 is held in safflower oil.
