Life Extension Whole Food Multivitamin

A plant-based daily multivitamin with vitamins from fruits, algae and quinoa sprouts plus a 1,400 mg blend of 13 plant extracts

Whole Food Multivitamin is Life Extension's plant-based daily multi, made with vegetarians, vegans and anyone eating less meat in mind. Three vegetarian capsules cover 19 vitamins and minerals, 18 of them at 100% of the Daily Value or more, with vitamins drawn mostly from plant sources: vitamin A from African oil palm fruit carotenoids, vitamin C from amla fruit, vitamin D3 from algae, vitamin E from sunflower and the B vitamins from quinoa sprouts.

Life Extension adds riboflavin 5'-phosphate, methylfolate and methylcobalamin to the B vitamins, and pairs the vitamins with minerals like zinc, selenium and iodine. On top of that you get a 1,400 mg food complex of 13 fruits, vegetables and plants, including broccoli, blueberry, cranberry, elderberry, onion and grape seed. There's no iron or calcium on the panel. A bottle of 90 capsules is a 30-day supply, and it's gluten free and non-GMO.

How to use it

  1. Take 3 capsules a day with food.
  2. Store the bottle tightly closed in a cool, dry place.
  3. Don't take more than 3 capsules a day.

If you get more than 50 mcg (2,000 IU) of vitamin D a day from food and supplements, Life Extension says to have your vitamin D level checked from time to time. Don't use it if you have high blood calcium levels. NIH notes that a multivitamin plus fortified foods and other supplements can push some nutrients past their upper limits, so count what else you take. Talk to your physician first if you're pregnant or nursing or have a medical condition. Keep out of reach of children.

A good fit if you

  • Eat a vegetarian or vegan diet, or just less meat
  • Want vitamins that come from fruits, algae and quinoa sprouts
  • Want a multi without iron
  • Like methylfolate and methylcobalamin in your multivitamin

Common questions

How many capsules do I take?

3 capsules a day with food. A bottle of 90 lasts 30 days.

Does it have iron or calcium?

No. Neither is on the panel. It does have 50 mg of magnesium, 11 mg of zinc, 55 mcg of selenium and 150 mcg of iodine.

Is it vegetarian?

Yes. Life Extension lists it as vegetarian and made it with vegetarian and vegan diets in mind. The vitamin D3 comes from algae and the capsule is vegetable cellulose.

Why does my bottle say Plant-Based Multivitamin?
